If you've still got some energy left after your shopping expedition, you might fancy doing something sporty during your vacation. Chicago has plenty of sports facilities and offers a range of activities, such as cycling, swimming, tennis, golf, bowling, water sports and ice skating!

In fact, one great way of seeing the city (while keeping fit!) is cycling. Chicago boasts many miles of bike lanes and paths and has thousands of bike racks available to use. You can hire a bicycle and enjoy the city's sights on two wheels.

You will also have to sample some of the delicious food on offer in Chicago. In fact, you will be spoilt for choice by the number of restaurants in the city! Not surprisingly, there is such a huge range of cuisine to suit a great variety of tastes, such as Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Indian, French, Spanish, Cajun and more. Can someone give me your opinion on which segway model you prefer and why: the i2 or the x2?

* i2: Uses the new LeanSteer and InfoKey technologies.
* x2: The new XT model, same upgrades, with its own special software for off-road use. Can be equipped with a golf bag carrier, replacing the GT model. Turf Tires Available.

The Segway's i-Series model's maximum speed is 12.5 mph (approximately 20 km/h). Maximum power is 2 horsepower (1500 watts) per servo motor. The i-Series is capable of covering 15–25 miles (25–40 km) on a fully charged lithium ion battery, depending on terrain, riding style, and the condition of the batteries. It takes 8-10 hours to complete a full balancing and recharging cycle. For each 15 minutes of time re-charging, the batteries regain a mile of charge. The batteries also recharge while riding downhill. The p-Series is capable of covering 6–10 miles (10–16 km) on a fully charged nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery, depending on terrain. It takes 4–6 hours to recharge, and regains 1 mile for every 30 minutes charging.

The newer models i2 and x2 weigh 105 lb and 120 lb (48 and 54 kg) respectively.

Hop On A Segway In Chicago

There are plenty of ways to get around town while you are staying in Chicago. For example you could hop on a bus or on a train, or you could simply walk around town to see what you could find.

But buses and trains can be crowded and you don't always get a good view. Walking is better but it takes longer to cover the same amount of ground – and you've always got the threat of aching feet as well.

That's partly why it is worth exploring another opportunity that is available to you in Chicago. If you have ever heard of a Segway before, you will know what this type of transport involves. If you haven't, you're in for a nice surprise – and a pleasant journey as well.

Segways are making themselves known more and more in major cities around the world. Chicago has a number of companies that make Segways available to tourists in order to get around more easily. They are very eco-friendly as well, so if you want to avoid using public transport and really go green while you are getting around and seeing the Chicago sights, make a beeline for a Segway.

A Segway has two wheels and you stand on it rather than sitting down as you would on a bicycle. In addition to this its wheels are side by side rather than one in front of the other. But you do balance on it just as you would on a bicycle – except you don't have to power it yourself. Instead it has an electric motor which is charged up for use before you ride it.

When you arrive in Chicago make sure you find out what Segway tours are available. Not all of them are the same, nor do they cover the same areas and attractions. For example one of the tours you can try is a three hour basic guided tour of the city. You will see all the famous sights and also some that you may not have been aware of previously. You can also take a tour of the lakefront area in Chicago, which is loved by both residents and tourists alike.

One thing you will notice is that you can cover more ground on a Segway tour than you would if you were on foot. This means you can see more of Chicago; it is ideal if you only have a short stop in the city before moving on to your next destination.

Chicago hotels are dotted all over the place, so you will probably be able to book a room near to where one of the Segway tours takes place. Try it for yourself and see how quickly you fall in love with this green mode of travel.
